I'm trying to understand the difference between Microsoft's older and newer Office Certifications. Can you point me to more information?
Sure. For Office 2003 and earlier versions of office, see Microsoft's Office Specialist overview at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/officespecialist/officespecialist.mspx
Also, here's a great page titled "Should you become a Microsoft Office Specialist?" that covers the Office 2003 certifications: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA012111011033.aspx
For the latest version of Office, Office 2007, Microsoft is adding a new certification called Business Certification. More information is available at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/msbc/default.mspx
Within this certification there are two roles called Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS), and Microsoft Certified Application Professional (MCAP). As of this writing, Microsoft states that the Microsoft Office Specialist program will continue to be available and any certifications earned remain valid.
