Hi there. Just been doing the window server 2008 video, but when I try to seize the role on dc2, I keep getting this error " The requested FSMO operation failed. The
current FSMO holder could not be contacted." Is anyone else getting this error. I check replication and its working fine, dc1 and dc2 can communicate properly. Not sure where to go from here to resolve this. Any help is welcome
Thanks.

This may sound silly but when you are trying to seize the role on DC2 what Domain Controller are you on. If you are on DC2 you can't seize the role from itself.
Make sure you do the following if you are trying to move the role to say DC1
1) Open the Command Prompt
2) Type: ntdsutil > Enter
3) Type: activate instance ndts > Enter
4) Type: Roles > Enter
Type: Connections > Enter
5) Type: Connect to FlipperZone > Enter
(FlipperZone is the name of the server)
6)Type:Q > Enter
7) Type: Seize rid master (Assuming RID Master if the role you want to seize)
Note: If you want to seize the pdc emulator you have to type "seize pdc"
8) Type: Q > Enter

Hi
I was on dc2 trying to seize role from dc1. Both rip and pdc is currently with dc1. It still gives me the same error even when doing on cmd. I ran repadmin and it shows replication is working, however when I test creating a dummy user, it does not replicate to dc2 and vice versa. Could this due to some issue with replications or dns issue?
Thanks.

From what it sounds like the issue is more than likely a DNS issue.
Make sure each DNS server points the IP to the internal DNS.
See if you can ping DC1 to DC2 and DC2 to DC1. If you can't verify that you have the correct subnetwork setup. For example you can't have 192.168.10.11 on DC1 and 192.168.40.8 on DC2 they have to be on the same network.
Also make sure in DNS the records are pointing to the correct locaion.
