Hi,
If I have an existing infrastructure with a router which is plugged with a switch which is plugged with DNS server, clients, etc, and I want to add a VPN server, where do I place the VPN server? Do I plug it to the router and move the switch to the internal nic card of the VPN server?

Do you want to setup the VPN as practice or do you just want to have a VPN connection to your network? If the latter then most modern routers have a VPN option in their GUI and are easily configurable. If the former and you are just wanting access to your systems, then you could setup RDP and Port Forward 3389 on the router to the appropriate machine.
If neither of the above is what you want then please post back with a more detailed description of your setup and what you require the VPN for and to do. Ta.

Hi Biggles77,
I wanted to set it up in an office. We have a cisco router here which is managed by a 3rd party vendor and I dont think there is VPN feature in it.

What is the fastest, least latency VPN protocol? I am setting up a VPN across two DD-WRT routers. Information traveling over this VPN is not sensitive or private, I just want the fastest possible transmission speeds between my two VPN endpoints. I wouldn't even mind if i didn't have to encrypt it.

Hi rurimasu
I have a similar setup here and also need to set up a VPN system. As far as I understand you have a connection from the router to the VPN device and then from the VPN device to the Switch.

Actually, what I have done was to connect the VPN via the Internal port to the main switch on the internal network. Then connected the external port the the Firewall.
