Hi,

I am considering getting a certification in MCSA 2003. However, I am not a pro when it comes to using computers. I consider myself having the same amount of computer knowledge as does the regular Joe. I was wondering if anyone thinks this that is a good place for me to start at. Thanks.

Dear Regular Joe,

Starting with a CompTIA certification might be easier. Since you expressed interest in MCSA I can assume you are interested in network administration. CompTIAs’ Network+ covers the basics of network infrastructure. We are currently working on a new 2009 version of the Network+ training. I would suggest waiting for that release.

In the mean time you can get your feet wet with some free TCP/IP training here:

Once you have the basics of network infrastructure down you can move on to MCSA if you like but you should seriously consider learning the most current technology which is Windows Server 2008 instead of 2003. 2003 is still widely used but 2008 is becoming more and more popular. You will have to decide based on your specific interests and employment situation.

We also have some free Server 2008 training available at http://windowsserver.trainsignal.com/ Look in the left column under where it says ”Free Training”

Best of luck!
