View Full Version : Audio playback problems [WinXP SP3]

I'm having audio problems when I try to play any of the training videos. Video playback is clear and problem-free, however the audio is a different story.
At first, audio appears to play flawlessly, but within a few seconds to a minute, it cuts out, while video continues to play. It will not return to normal unless I move the position slider, or rewind the video completely.
I am running Windows XP SP3, in a Macbook Pro Boot Camp environment. I have tested other audio files and they work fine. I also have downloaded the most recent revision of the K-Lite codec pack, so codecs should be up to date. One final thing I should mention is that windows was just freshly installed.
Is there a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.
Here is a suggestion you can try:
Copy one (or all) of the videos to your hard drive and play them locally. There is a chance the media player is having a hard time keeping up while reading from the disc.
Please let me know if this works for you.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for the reply.
I actually have the hard drive pre-filled with the video courses, but just to make sure, I have tried your suggestion, and it still does not work.
However, I did a little digging and found out other people were having similar issues playing wmv's where the audio skips or cuts out randomly. The audio cutting, along with my other various BSODs while using Bootcamp seem to be originating from faulty multi-touch drivers. I have not fully tested it, but when I do, I will post an update.
Thanks again

Update:
After disabling the track pad from device manager, it seems all the problems I have had disappeared. I let one of the videos play and its going on for 30 minutes and the audio not cutting out, so i am sure the culprit were the drivers for the track pad.
While disabling the track pad is the workaround, I'll be pointing my frustration to Apple and wait until they address a fix.
Thanks.
I am so glad you found a solution and can view our videos with their proper sound! Also, thanks for sharing your trick so that others can benefit.
Please let me know if there is anything else we can do for you.

Rich, have you had a look at this thread as they also had audio problems when running on a Mac. http://forums.trainsignal.com/showthread.php?t=415

@Biggles77
Thanks for the link. I downloaded the TechSmith codec and WMV 9 for OS X and can view them within OS X. But is there a way to get the gui that shows the list of all the sections of a course that's within the setup.exe to play within OS X?

Can you please tell me which of our training courses you are using, and when about you purchased it? There are some different versions and I want to make sure I am troubleshooting the correct one.

I think I remember buying it around early to mid 2007. I'm not exactly sure where to determine the version, but in the readme, it states August 2006. Not sure if that helps.
On another note, I have found another workaround to view them with the gui showing the titles of parts of the courses. Playing the videos while in Parallels 4.0 for mac also seems to work pretty nicely. No audio/video problems as of yet, and the multitouch trackpad drivers do not effect windows while under Parallels either.
