I have watched ‘video 5’ on the Exchange Server 2003 DVD, and got the internal email system working.

However, I just cannot send or receive emails externally.

I have setup the DNS records exactly how the video said, however, I am sure there is a setting not correctly configured on the server my side.

I am very close to getting this working but I am just not moving from here.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

(PS The error I receive is something to do with RELAY??)

Here are few questions I need you to answer:
1. Are you behind a firewall? If so, did you open the SMTP and POP3 ports on your firewall?
2. What is the exact error message that you receive after attempting to send out an e-mail? What is the error when someone tries to send e-mail to your network?

You may also want to go http://member.dnsstuff.com/pages/dnsreport.php and put your organization’s domain name relating to your e-mail under the “Email Test”.

I know you said you checked the DNS settings but go back and make sure that there are no external DNS problems for you MX records, A records or other misconfiguration issues by entering you domain name under DNSreport on the site above. Keep in mind that they only allow 1 free use before they ask you to pay the annual fee.

This is a good place to start troubleshooting and it will give you tips on what to check next.

Hope this helps.
