Was wondering if you could shine a little light on the following, since it wasn’t really covered in the training cd’s.

I have been working with a Microsoft rep and am waiting to hear back from him.

The policy that we are looking to put into place is:
To run a monthly maintenance that will permanently delete all Deleted Items older than 3 months and permanently delete all Sent Items that are older then 1year.

I have read thru all the articles that were sent over to me.

My steps would be as follows:

□ open System Manager
□ Recipients / Right Click on Recipient Policies / Right Click / New / Recipient Policy / Mailbox Manager Settings
□ Provide a name to the rule
□ Mailbox Manager Settings – choose what do when processing a mailbox
□ Uncheck all folders except for Sent Items and Deleted and then Edit to set appropriate Age Limit
□ Click Apply
□ Then go Administrative Group / Servers / Right Click Properties / Mailbox Management to set schedule

This is where I still have a few questions that I hope you can answer.

If I choose to run this on Sunday at Midnight, does the process run until it is completed?

How do I know when the entire policy has completed its sweep thru all mailboxes?

If it proceeds to run into the next day then how will the server respond once there is more email traffic?

If I leave the Start mailbox management process set to Never run then to manually start the process I would right click the server and click Start Mailbox Management Process?

What happens if a backup is scheduled at the same time the policy is running? Do I need to disable the backups until the policy is completed – again how do I know when it is completed?

Those are the questions that remain.

I hope you can shine some light on this so that I can proceed with the setup.

Thanks

Zach from TS posted my questions almost a month ago and stated that a professor should get back to me within a couple of days. Was wondering if someone could take the time to assist and shine some light on my areas of concern.

Hope to hear from someone soon.
