Regarding P to V,

After a machine (2003 server) is virtualized so there are now duplicated names on the network how much time do you have to take the physical machine down. I guess it is neglibile? Since the IP address will be detected forcing that to be changed.

Certainly how you perform the P2V may or may not prevent IP address conflicts. In other words, if you use, say, ghost, you could just shut down the original PC before turning on the new virtual PC.
If the two system are using DHCP, the newly created virtual guest should boot and get a new IP address.
In other words, I haven't had to worry about it too much...
