Scenario, 4 ESX Hosts (3.5) 4 guests on each host for 16 VM's total. Hosts are connected to ISCSI array. Two separate 2003 machines running Virtual center and the other, VCB which also has backup EXEC installed.

What would be you advice on backups? The guest can be backed up using VCB but where would you store the Guest VM's files if they are stored on the VCB proxy is that not a bit risky?

I am guessing the the hosts cannot be backed up?

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

I would recommend you to take advantage of the VCB proxy and the backup exec installed there. While I haven't checked, I suspect that backup exec will integrate with VCB, making this whole process easier for you.

I don't see a security issue with backing up the guest VMs to the VCB proxy as long as you have that VCB proxy secured well.

Thanks for your post!
