Another followup question on a fresh 2008 Std install. Have a sales rep who sold this 2008 Std server, along with qty-5 TS licenses. Server is setup on the customer network, is the sole Windows server and is functioning as the domain controller.

On the 2008 training video, Coach states to not setup Terminal Services role on a 2008 server that is running as a domain controller.... Did we goof? Or can you run TS on a domain controller - thanks

Well, it's not the best set up, that's for sure. But if the network is small enough (<10 users and clients), and the machine has enough RAM, it'll work for a while. Best bet is to get another box on that one ASAP and move TS over to it.

I think you had better start passing that video around to your team mates. :D

Ya... somewhat new to the server arena, but has been that way ever since I can remember.. Sales will spend 2 hrs working up a solution and the techs spend 20hrs getting it to work...

The customers intended use is for after hours remote access to the system by a select few number of users (<5 obviously), so thinking should be safe turning up the TS role. User environment is appx 50users as it currently stands. Server should handle the role I"m thinking. Can't remember the processor specs, but do know 4GB mem on 64-bit install. Will go ahead and install and monitor performance.. IF any other "beware of this" please let me know :)

again, appreciate the assistance.

The problem is that standard users are normally prevented from logging on to a domain controller, so you basically have to break the security model to allow users to run applications on your domain controller.

Thanks DShack for the followup. That security exposure I understand. I would think that even the option to turn on this role on a DC is probably more intended for remote management of the server by admin's, than for user usage.

Do appreciate the comments - thanks
